Definitions

The licensee may engage in the practice of nursing at the level indicated.

The licensee did not renew their license within the specified time period.

4. Restricted License
The licensee is restricted, usually as a result of disciplinary action, to practicing nursing in Mississippi and does not have the privilege to practice nursing in any state other than Mississippi unless another Compact State Board of Nursing and the Mississippi Board of Nursing agree in writing that the nurse may practice in another Compact State. Requests for information concerning the restriction(s) may be made by calling (601) 957-6300.

5. Primary State of Residence
Is the State that the licensee declares under penalty of perjury to be their home state. It is the state of a person's declared fixed permanent and principal home for legal purposes. The licensee must be able to provide acceptable forms of proof of residency upon request from the Board of Nursing.

6. Multi State License
The licensee has the privilege to practice nursing in all states which have adopted and implemented the Nurse Licensure Compact. The most current information concerning the Nurse Licensure Compact may be found at www.ncsbn.org using the Nurse Licensure Compact link. A nurse changing their primary state of residence, from one Compact State to another, may continue to practice under the former home state license and multi-state licensure privilege during the processing of the nurses licensure application in the new home state for a period not to exceed thirty (30) days.

7. Single State License
The licensee is limited to practicing nursing in Mississippi and does not have the privilege to practice nursing in any state other than Mississippi unless another Compact State Board of Nursing and the Mississippi Board of Nursing agree in writing that the nurse may practice in another Compact State.

Requests for information concerning Past Disciplinary Actions must be submitted in writing for a $20.00* fee (for record retrieval and the first 50 pages) to:

*There is an additional charge of $.50 per page for each page above the first 50.

Examination

No.

2. What must I do to sit for the NCLEX?
Complete/meet all degree requirements of an acceptable nursing program; complete and send the Board an application for examination and licensure and register to take the exam with NCLEX.

3. How are examination results provided?
Exam results are mailed to the examinant within 10 - 14 days after the exam is completed. The names of individuals licensed by examination are added to the online verification system on a daily basis.

Yes.

2. Do I have to subscribe to verify a nursing license online?
No. Licensure can still be verified on a per nurse basis. There is still no fee for Level 1 information (name, license number and level of licensure, disciplinary status and licensure status). Additional licensure information as well as verification of privilege to practice in Mississippi with a multistate license from another Compact state can be obtained for a fee of $20.00.

3. How often are the Board’s licensure status files/data updated?
The system will be updated after the close of each business day.

4. Does an organization or facility have to subscribe per provider # or will one subscription by the “parent” facility cover all the satellite facilities?
A subscriber receives 10 users with a subscription and may add users in groups of 10 up to a total of 30 users. If the number of users exceeds 30, the entity would have to submit another subscriber registration agreement.

5. Who receives the notice of change in licensure status?
The email that is listed as the organization's contact e-mail will receive the notice of change in licensure status.

6. What is verification of privilege to practice in Mississippi pursuant to multistate license from another Compact state?
The Mississippi Board of Nursing will verify whether a nurse has a current privilege to practice in Mississippi based on his/her holding a multistate license from another compact state.

The inquirer will be informed as to whether the nurse does or does not have the privilege to practice nursing in Mississippi.
