10. I am an expanded role LPN and I was selected for audit, what do I need to do to satisfy the requirements of this audit?

You have been selected for a LPN expanded role contact hour audit. You must submit evidence of completion of a minimum of ten (10) contact hours by December 31, 2013 in order for your license and expanded role (IV Therapy and/or Hemodialysis) to be renewed to:

Mississippi Board of Nursing
ATTN: LPN Expanded Role
713 S. Pear Orchard Rd.
Suite 300
Ridgeland, MS 39157

Please complete and submit the LPN Expanded Role Audit Form along with the evidence of completion as described below.

The evidence of completion must include:

  • the name of the course provider and/or agency,
  • name of course and/or in-service,
  • date(s) of course and/or in-service,
  • name, title and signature of personnel responsible for course; and
  • the number of hours earned

If you are certified in both IV therapy and hemodialysis you must submit ten (10) contact hours for each certification, ten (10) for IV therapy and ten (10) for hemodialysis. Your LPN expanded role certification will not be renewed until the required documentation is submitted, unless you have notified the Board in writing or through the online renewal that you do not wish to renew your expanded role. Working without a certification in an expanded role is a violation of the Mississippi Nursing Practice Law and will subject to you to disciplinary action.

Per 30 Mississippi Administrative Code, Part 2840. Rule 3.1 and 4.1, documentation of completion of a minimum of ten (10) contact hours of continuing education and/or in-service on IV therapy and/or hemodialysis within the previous two (2) years is required for renewal of certification.

Courses and/or in-services accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) are acceptable and must be related to the applicable expanded role. In addition, courses and/or in-services offered through the Mississippi LPN Association and/or through a facility's education program that are related to the applicable expanded role may also be acceptable. NOTE: The Mississippi Board of Nursing does not provide continuing education or in-services for LPN expanded role contact hours. It is the responsibility of the licensee to obtain the required contact hours.
