Register for Architect Registration Exam

To apply to begin the Architect Registration Exam (ARE), review the instructions below and answer all the questions as prompted during the online application process. After payment with a valid credit card or electronic check, your completed application will be automatically transmitted to the Mississippi State Board of Architecture.

In order to begin examination as a Mississippi candidate, you must meet the qualifications of Section 73-1-13 and rule 1.2. You must:

Application Instructions

  • Complete the Mississippi Application for Admittance to the ARE
  • Error messages will appear in red at the top of the screen.
  • Pay the one-time initial exam application fee of $60.00 by credit card or electronic check.
  • Request admittance to the ARE through NCARB

Additional Required Documents:

  • NCARB Record – In response to your request to NCARB to be admitted to the ARE, NCARB will automatically transmit your summary record, including your college transcript, to the Board.

What next?

  • Upon receipt of your completed application and college transcript (which will be provided to the Board by NCARB), the Board will determine your eligibility to begin examination.
  • If eligibility is granted, the Board will notify NCARB and establish your eligibility to begin the ARE.
  • You will receive an email from the Board and an email from NCARB notifying you that you may begin the examination.
  • Review details regarding the exam at www.NCARB.org. Be sure to read the “ARE Guidelines” and other pertinent details on scheduling, exam fees, exam specifications, and more.
  • Score reports (test results) are typically processed within four weeks of your test date. NCARB will notify you by email when an exam score report is issued.
  • If you encounter any problems during an examination, follow the procedure outlined in the “ARE Guidelines”. Copy the Board on any emails or correspondence regarding any problems with the exam.

What happens when I finish the exam?

  • After completion of the ARE and AXP, direct NCARB to transmit your full NCARB record to Mississippi (a full record transmittal)
  • Upon receipt of your full NCARB Council Record to document passage of all exam sections and completion of AXP, the Board will provide an Application for Registration by Examination. This is a hard copy form that must be notarized and returned. Within this packet, you will also receive the Mississippi Jurisprudence Exam, which must be returned along with your license application.
  • Upon Board approval of your application, you will receive an Official Notice of Registration and a license number will be assigned.

Important Reminders!

  • After 30 minutes of inactivity, your session will expire. Upon expiration, any of the data that you have entered will be lost. Please be mindful of this limit while entering your application.
  • Applications will expire after 6 months of no activity. In such cases the individual must reapply.
  • Please use proper capitalization. Names and other information will appear just as entered by the user on "Certificates of Standing" and other documents and listings.
  • All payments are non-refundable.
